Sometimes we forget that baby boomers and their parents love smartphones just as much as millennials and post-millennials do. Last year T-Mobile launched an unlimited plan for 55+ and above. But now it seems they have a rival as sprint are planning to launch same unlimited plan.
Sprint has announced a new unlimited data plan built specifically for baby boomers, popularly called seniors. The 55-plus plan is aimed at offering the older smartphone users among us a way to get as much data as they need at a very affordable price.
The new plan includes a few benefits that Sprint customers might enjoy. For starters, seniors will get Sprint Global Roaming, which allows them have an unlimited texts and “basic data” at no extra charge in 185 countries.
Sprint is setting an approach within an appropriate context to achieve a desired result. A target aimed at the ability to stream at 480p — but the low resolution will really be outdated in 2018, so we think the fact that streaming is limited to such a resolution is more of a downside. In fact, Sprint will now allow users to pay extra if they want better-quality streaming — $10 extra per month will get streaming at 1080p. But there are a few speed caps based on type of content: video streams in 480p, music streaming is capped at 500 kbps, and gaming streams can only go up to 5 Mbps. Additionally, mobile hotspot usage can only reach 3G speeds, and international roaming data usage is limited to 100 MB at 2G speeds.
The Unlimited 55 plus plan is quite affordable, unlike the standard non-age-restricted unlimited data plan that run well into the $60-$70 range, Sprint’s unlimited data plan for seniors comes in at $50 per month for the first line, and as little as $20 per month for a second line. This means that with an Autopay set up, seniors can get unlimited data for as little as $35 per month per line.
However, In the end, the plan that’s right for you will probably depend on what carrier you prefer and are conversant with. If you’re already a Sprint customer, it will makes more sense to stick with Sprint — and the same applies for T-Mobile. Ultimately, it may not matter anyway because — T-Mobile and Sprint have announced their intention to merge. So even if you go with Sprint, you may end up with T-Mobile in the next few years regardless, considering the resulting company of the merger is set to keep the T-Mobile name.
The carrier’s Unlimited 55+ option is available starting from this week, subscribers don’t have to enrol or migrate to an AutoPay to take advantage of the offer. And the plan is available for a limited time, but Sprint hasn’t shared the official expiration date yet.
