Last month, several new widgets were released by Google, a new widget for Google Photos, Play Books, and YouTube Music. Google is however not resting, the company is set to roll out a new Digital Wellbeing widget that helps users keep track of their screen time. You get this info right from the comfort of your home screen, users can also get info on time spent on the most frequently used apps.
According to 9to5Google, who first reported, a teardown of the Beta version of the Digital Wellbeing widget reveals very key details about the upcoming widget. Although the widget isn’t live yet in the latest beta release, the publication has managed to enable it ahead of time manually in order to share screenshots.
Findings from this teardown reveal that screen time is shown first, and then the top three apps used that day follow suit. Proportionally-sized circles, which nicely conform to Dynamic Color theming are also said to accompany that list. The widget can be quite compact at 2×2 (or even 2×1 for an app-less view) but can be greatly expanded. When the widget is larger, the most used application is noted at the bottom.
According to 9to5Google, various lines of code were seen within the widget that hints at possible future features. However keep in mind that speculations are that Google may or may not ever ship these features, and at the same time our interpretation of what they are may be imperfect. We’ll try to enable those that are closer to being finished, however, to show you how they’ll look in case they do ship.
The Digital Wellbeing “Your screen time” widget has been said will not be exclusive to Pixel phones, but will be available across Android devices.
