Microsoft had some great announcements for its Xbox One fans and then the entire gaming world.
We’ll start with the announcement for the fans which is that it will launch two Xbox One consoles: a slim model that is compatible with 4K displays and another on it calls Project Scorpio which would support Virtual Reality (VR). The slim Xbox ne dubbed Xbox One S is 40 percent lighter than the Xbox One we are used to. As earlier mentioned it can support 4K content. It’s going to be available from August this year and price starts at $299/101,000 Naira. For us here, it might be up to October before we start seeing it in the market because most of such shipments go the North American and European markets before you start seeing them in African markets. As many of us do, we just simply order online or buy it when we go abroad or through a relation overseas. That may not be the case in the end though. Lest I forget the in-built power supply that can stand horizontally or vertically.
As cool as what I have described above sounds, there’s the Project Scorpio which sounds even more interesting and just before you start searching online for stores where you can buy it, don’t bother as it would launch towards the end of next year 2017. Project Scorpio is capable of displaying 4K content only this time it goes a step further from the Xbox One S by having Virtual Reality features. Rumours of this machine were around very much last week but now it’s confirmed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) which is also known as the big game show in Los Angeles, California in the United States. Phil Spencer who is the head of Xbox said . “The next step change for gamers and developers must deliver true 4K gaming and high-fidelity VR. I’m really excited to share what we have been working on…… “We believe it’ll be the most powerful console ever built, with 6 teraflops of power, this will be the console to lead us into true 4K gaming,” It’s going to be a crazy experience with high quality VR headset experience for gamers whom from comments online have applauded the Project. The machine has 6 teraflops of computing power, with high-quality pixels. It will be the most powerful console ever built according to Mr Spencer.
Gaming without barriers
To cap up the evening, Mr. Spencer also looked a bit into the future where games would not longer rely on just consoles. “Gamers have never had more choice in how and where they play….“We are bringing our biggest games lineup ever to Xbox One and Windows 10, uniting gamers across networks on Xbox Live and expanding the Xbox One family of devices with the addition of Xbox One S and Project Scorpio to give gamers more choice in how and where they play. There’s never been a better time to be an Xbox gamer.”
The Play Anywhere program also allows gamers to buy a game once and play it on both their Windows 10 PC and Xbox One. The press release ended with a long list of games coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 and it included DEAD RISING 4 (WORLD PREMIERE), HALO WARS 2 (XBOX ONE AND WINDOWS 10 EXCLUSIVE) and TEKKEN 7 (BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT INC.).
