Microsoft has recently stirred the gaming world with exciting announcements, thrilling both Xbox One fans and the larger gaming community. Among these announcements is the promise of two new Xbox One consoles, mammoth strides towards reshaping the gaming experience.
First, Microsoft is releasing the slim model also referred to as Xbox One S that boasts compatibility with 4K displays. Eye-poppingly slender and lighter by 40 percent compared to the predecessor Xbox One, this console accommodates the demands of high-quality content like never before. Xbox One S is slated for an August release this year, with a starting price of $299 or approximately 101,000 Naira. For those of us in regions where tech shipments primarily reach North American and European markets first, we may have to wait until October to get our hands on these beauties in our local market. Of course, there’s always the option of ordering online or getting it abroad. A unique selling feature to note about the Xbox One S is the in-built power supply that can stand both horizontally or vertically.
But, if the slim console has intrigued you, the second announcement, Project Scorpio, is bound to blow your mind. This groundbreaking project, set for release towards the end of 2025 isn’t just an ordinary console. Capable of displaying 4K content like its sibling, Project Scorpio goes leaps beyond by incorporating Virtual Reality features. The gaming world was rife with whispers and rumors about this powerful machine last week, but the official confirmation didn’t arrive until the recent Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, California.
Phil Spencer, the dynamo heading Xbox, enlightened the world with stunning details about Project Scorpio. In his own words, “The next step change for gamers and developers must deliver true 4K gaming and high-fidelity VR. I’m truly excited to share what we have been working on… We believe it’ll be the most potent console ever built, with 6 teraflops of power, this will be the console to lead us into true 4K gaming.” With 6 teraflops of computing power and high-quality pixels, Project Scorpio is indeed going to revolutionize the way gamers enjoy the VR headset experience.
In line with his vision of “Gaming without Barriers”, Mr. Spencer unveiled his future-forward perception where gaming will transcend the limited confines of just consoles. He enthusiastically emphasized, “We are bringing our biggest games lineup ever to Xbox One and Windows 10, uniting gamers across networks on Xbox Live and expanding the Xbox One family of devices with the addition of Xbox One S and Project Scorpio…There’s never been a better time to be an Xbox gamer.”
Adding to this significant milestone, Microsoft introduced the Play Anywhere program, permitting gamers to buy a game once and play it on both a Windows 10 PC and Xbox One. Alongside these announcements was the release of a long list of games set to blow up Xbox One and Windows 10, including DEAD RISING 4, HALO WARS 2 and TEKKEN 7.
