A new membership plan that is the most economical method to see ad-free content on the video-streaming platform was unveiled by YouTube on Wednesday, March 5, called Premium Lite. The Premium Lite test program, a new premium membership tier which costs $7.99 per month and provides ad-free watching of “most videos” on YouTube, has begun. Customers using YouTube Lite will be able to view videos without advertisements in a variety of verticals, including gaming, fashion, beauty, food, news, and more. However, advertisements will be displayed on music videos and content. YouTube claims that it will be expanding to more locations in the upcoming weeks, while it is now only available in the US.
Given its cheaper pricing, it must have sacrificed certain features in comparison to the usual YouTube Premium package, which is exactly what it does. Despite providing ad-free YouTube video streaming, the Alphabet-owned site does not include YouTube Music, thus there is no way to watch both music and music videos without advertisements. According to YouTube, they are unable to use services like background playback and offline music downloads, although they may still listen to tunes with advertisements on the app.
YouTube emphasizes that “most” videos will be available for ad-free viewing with its new Premium Lite package. But it doesn’t mean you won’t see any advertisements. According to the site, advertisements may still appear while users search for and peruse content, as well as on music and shorts.
The new tier, which is an entry-level subscription, will not include some of the features found in the full YouTube Premium ($13.99 per month) subscription, such as background playback, downloads, and ad-free music video viewing while in the upcoming weeks, the Premium Lite plan will be extended to Australia, Germany, and Thailand after being launched as a test in the US. Last month, there was initial news regarding the introduction of a new, reasonably priced YouTube Premium membership. Interestingly, YouTube’s ad-free plan costs $13.99 a month in the United States.
According to the corporation, YouTube Music and Premium now has over 125 million members overall, including trial users, and is commemorating its 20th anniversary this year. The new plan’s extension of YouTube Premium is just one of the ways the platform hopes to provide consumers with a range of video consumption options. The corporation claimed to have worked hard to provide users many ways to enjoy their favourite content since the debut of YouTube Music and Premium, and Premium Lite is the most recent development in that direction. Additionally, YouTube Music, Premium, and the growth of Premium Lite continue to open up new income streams for our partners and creators.
To ensure that they have the ideal mix of features and advantages for viewers who like to watch the majority of videos ad-free, whether they are for learning, comedy, gaming, or cookery, the corporation has been testing Premium Lite. We suggest the Premium plan for those who desire offline and background playback, as well as ad-free music on YouTube and YouTube Music.
With content from your favourite producers, including podcasts, live streaming of games, and scripted plays, YouTube has something for everyone. Users may enjoy their favourite material more uninterruptedly with Premium Lite. This year, the plan is to extend the Premium Lite pilots to more nations and provide our consumers with more options for maximizing their membership benefits.
Bloomberg revealed the update to YouTube’s subscription roster last month. According to YouTube, it has been tested in Thailand, Germany, and Australia and will soon be available to Americans. In the next weeks, the subscription will also be made available to all customers in the experimental areas.
Over the next few months, YouTube plans to roll out Premium Lite in other areas, first as pilots.
YouTube is expanding in order to increase subscription income, which might support the businesses of artists. Younger viewers who have mostly switched from viewing TV to watching videos online on platforms like YouTube and TikTok would benefit most from the new Lite tier.
Because there won’t be as many distracting advertisements, viewing films on the large screen in the living room will also be more enjoyable. According to a recent report by YouTube, TVs now account for the bulk of its viewership in the United States, surpassing both computers and mobile devices. According to the firm, YouTube Music and YouTube Premium subscriptions together currently reach over 125 million people globally, including trials.
