YouTube Music users now have the ability to create customize stations focusing on specific artists, that can further tweak how the algorithm determines which songs to play. YouTube Music is a streaming service owned by Google. The “Radio Builder” feature, which has been available since Tuesday, is accessible to users by going to the “Your music tuner” section of the YouTube Music homepage in the iOS or Android app.

Users can choose up to 30 artists when creating a custom station, and then specify whether they want to hear music just from those artists or from artists that are similar to those specified. Also, users have the ability to select to play songs they know, songs they haven’t heard before, or a combination of the two while adding filters to allow them to fine-tune the mix. Users could take it further by creating a station that focuses on energetic new music from artists like Eden, Khalid, and Pup or one that features your favourite relaxing deep cuts from Boygenius and its members’ solo archives, for instance.

YouTube Music's new radio experience

The company said in an email “with this new radio functionality, we’re flipping that model on its head, empowering users to create their own radios from the ground up, by combining key music building blocks such as artists and common music descriptors.” The company further disclosed that “the result is giving users a lot more control over their music listening experiences and allowing them to slice their music in many ways currently unavailable to them, on YouTube Music or really any music service.”

It’s good to know a music feature that puts you at advantage is available and would be sticking around for a while. YouTube first tested last year. The feeling that you can control what you listen to looks like a wonderful alternative for times you want to listen to something specific but don’t feel like manually making up a playlist, even if YouTube Music already has a ton of algorithmically driven stations and mixes.

According to Google spokesperson Paul Pennington, whether you’re a paying subscriber or a free user, you may utilize the service, which will be accessible anywhere you can access YouTube Music.
