YouTube Music Gains Edge Over Spotify in These Ways

It is challenging to find a technology that is widely regarded as the “best” because everyone has diverse tastes. Comparing items in these circumstances enables you to determine what functions best. Similarly, the best way to sort out your confusion between Spotify and YouTube Music is to compare the two. Many of the functions of Spotify and YouTube Music are similar. Spotify is inferior to YouTube Music in these six ways.

  • Mood switches on the main page

The YouTube Music home page’s top provides easy access to them which are conveniently easy to locate from the YouTube Music interface.

Varied UI components are given varied priority on the Spotify and YouTube Music home pages, which results in a distinct appearance. Although Spotify’s home screen may appear neat and attractive, YouTube Music has a more straightforward and efficient method to directing you to the music you want to listen to after using the program. The rapid mood selections on YouTube Music are mostly to blame for this.

YouTube Music has tabs for podcasts as well as a variety of mood filters, such as melancholy, feel-good, focus, party, and more, in contrast to Spotify, which only displays Music and Podcasts tabs at the top. Depending on the criteria you choose, YouTube Music displays stations, playlists, and mixes.

Instead of a separate website on Spotify, you receive mood-based playlists that match your preferences and include a variety of music collections. However, Spotify’s Search page has a packed Mood and Genre area, making it hard to pick the correct one. To access all of those playlists, you can also put “Mood” into the search field. Finding music depending on your current emotions shouldn’t have to be this difficult.

  • Pin the speed dial.

The fastest and quickest method for playing your preferred tunes

The songs to be added are those added in the path with the “Liked songs” area on Spotify when I listen to it and fall in love with it. You can pin a song to the Speed dial on YouTube Music, which is comparable. You may swipe left or right to access and play your favourite song on YouTube Music’s Speed dial area, which is displayed on the main page, unlike Spotify, where your favourite music is located on a separate Liked Songs page.

But there are benefits to the Liked Songs page. For instance, you may download all of the music for offline listening, shuffle, and play your favourite songs in sequence. Users can add songs to the Liked Music sections of Spotify and YouTube Music, but Google handles it better since the Speed dial allows you to pin or unpin the Liked music.

  • Using incognito mode

You may listen to all of your guilty pleasure music on YouTube Music.

Although Spotify and YouTube Music do not have an option that refers to Incognito mode, they both offer functions that do the same thing. This is in contrast to many other well-known web browsers. The Private Session setting on Spotify allows you six hours of anonymous surfing. To ensure that your actions are not reflected on the YouTube Music app, you need to activate the Pause watch history and Pause search history toggles.

The problem with Spotify is that its Private sessions have a six-hour restriction, and you are unable to alter that duration. That limitation does not apply to YouTube Music. Until you actively disable those two toggles, they won’t do so automatically.

  • The activity feed

Keep up with your favourite artists’ updates.

  • Improved experience with music videos

Watching and listening to YouTube Music continuously

On Spotify and YouTube Music, switching to videos is simple; nonetheless, Google’s implementation was superior. YouTube Music remembers it after changing to the video format and, if there is a video for that song, plays the subsequent track in the video format. Until you switch to audio, it continues to play music in the video format, if it is available.

It’s inconvenient for a continuous listening and viewing experience, yet Spotify does it differently. This is due to the fact that when a music video begins playing on Spotify, you have to switch to the video format for each track independently. Although YouTube Music can function similarly to YouTube, you won’t feel the same way about Spotify because of the many interruptions brought on by the frequent changes to video format.

  • Integration with YouTube

The selection is the finest feature about this.

In the US and other countries, YouTube is the most widely used streaming service. Because of this, YouTube is more likely than any other music streaming service to include a song you recently enjoyed that isn’t very popular. For customers who desire quick access to music videos without ever leaving the YouTube Music app, this makes the YouTube integration even more helpful.

Additionally, YouTube may provide song recommendations based on your watching history and musical tastes. The nicest part about this functionality is that customers are not compelled to follow these suggestions. To keep YouTube Music apart from the YouTube app, you may disable it in the settings.

Although YouTube Music isn’t flawless, it’s still worth trying.

In recent years, YouTube Music’s algorithm has advanced to the point that it is on pace with, if not better than, Spotify. YouTube Music is far from flawless, though. For instance, you would lose crossfade and 320kbps streaming if you’re an audiophile and intend to move from Spotify to YouTube Music. The inability of YouTube Music to manage music playback across devices as easily as Spotify is another significant drawback.

Additionally, it takes time for YouTube Music to learn your tastes in order to recommend songs that you’ll enjoy. In the early going, YouTube’s music algorithm might not be as excellent as Spotify’s. However, YouTube Music may take the place of Spotify as your main music streaming service provided you’re prepared to accept these limitations and understand how to make the most of it.

All things considered, YouTube Music could be a superior option if you like music videos and live performances and want more individualized tools for sharing and uploading music. Spotify could be a better fit for you if you’re more interested in finding new music, podcasts, and a consistent experience across devices.

In terms of earnings, per stream earnings on Spotify range from $0.003 to $0.005. A number of variables, including user location and subscription type, affect this rate. Despite being less expensive than YouTube Music ($0.008 per stream), Spotify’s large user base and wide selection of playlists make it a major force in the music streaming market.

The verdict

A huge collection of official songs, music videos, and user-uploaded content is available on YouTube Music. Because it integrates with YouTube, it performs exceptionally well in live performances and remixes.

Both human editors and computers have worked to curate Spotify’s vast collection of songs, albums, and playlists. It features a range of independent musicians in addition to a heavy emphasis on popular music.

According to a lot of internet evaluations, YouTube Music includes a lot more music than Spotify, including almost all of its tracks plus a few more. This is so that users may listen to any audio from any YouTube video within the app, thanks to YT Music. As long as they remain on YouTube, you may listen to any unreleased music, live performances, covers, Tiny Desk Concerts, parodies, and medleys. Such specialized recordings might be more difficult to locate on Spotify.
