How does it feel to share those funny and killer videos without using any data? Oh yea! YouTube Go has gone live in Nigeria.

Still on the GoogleforNigeria event, the tech giant, has decided to test run a new app called “YouTube Go” in Nigeria, after its launch in India. This operation will make Nigeria the second market where it will undergo a trial.

During its first launch in September last year, Johanna Wright, the company’s Product Management VP said in a statement:

“YouTube Go is a brand new app to help the next generation of users share and enjoy videos. It was designed and built from the ground up with insights from India to bring the power of video to mobile users in a way that is more conscious of their data and connectivity, while still being locally relevant and social.”

The event which took place yesterday, had the Sunday Pitchai, the company’s CEO reiterate the technology’s three top features: “performance, performance and more performance”

With YouTube Go, you can download quality videos that can be watched later on your device and allows you share these videos via Bluetooth with other devices at no cost. The interesting part is that it doesn’t consume as much data and it even gets more interesting because even on poor connectivity, performance is optimised to adapt to changing signal strengths and finally should that connection break at some point, download continues form where it stopped.

As revealed during its first launch, connectivity and data constraints were the driving factors that premeditated the technology concept and this is a great innovation for the Nigerian market.

Notably, the app allows you to share videos with ease. “To make the YouTube Go a reality, we used four mail pillars- and the first is to be relatable with a simple interface, which will make it load instantly”.

In addition, “YouTube Go will give you a preview before downloading. YouTube Go is also special, so you can download your favourite videos and send to friends. To sign up, go to YouTube go.com/signup.”

This innovation will sure ease the fear of watching a favourite video for fear of having missing data.
