Qualcomm and Xiaomi have announced that they would jointly debut a new Redmi 5G smartphone running on the Snapdragon SoC at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024 on October 16.
At the Snapdragon for India event in July, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 processor for the Indian mobile platform, a low-cost 5G chipset. Currently, Xiaomi is probably going to be the first OEM to release a phone using this new chipset. The alleged phone, which is being marketed as an entry-level model, is anticipated to be introduced in India during the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024 next week.
A Xiaomi smartphone with a Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chipset might make its debut on October 16 at IMC 2024. Although the precise details are yet unknown, the report speculates that this gadget would include a 6.7-inch LCD screen with 90Hz refresh rate and HD+ quality. There are currently no specifics available, but this might be a joint announcement.
Xiaomi claims that its new smartphone, which is powered by Snapdragon, will provide 5G connection to millions of Indians. At the event, the firm is anticipated to unveil the low-cost Redmi 5G smartphone, which is powered by the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2.
It could have an 8-megapixel selfie camera on the front and a 50-megapixel main back camera for optics. It is anticipated that the phone would be powered by a 5,000mAh battery that can be charged at 18W. Xiaomi’s MIUI skin, which is based on Android 14, may power it.
Qualcomm aims at $99 entry-level 5G smartphones in India with the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 CPU. In terms of Qualcomm’s mobile CPU range for the nation, it is positioned behind the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2.
With a Qualcomm Kryo CPU with eight cores—two for performance and six for efficiency—it is based on a 64-bit architecture. The six efficiency cores are limited to 1.8 GHz, whereas the performance cores can reach a maximum clock speed of 2.0 GHz. Additionally, it comes with an Adreno GPU that supports the OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.1, and OpenCL 2.0 APIs. A 4-nanometer technology is used to produce the CPU.
Using the same 4nm processing node as the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 processor enables twin 12-bit ISP cameras, dual-frequency GNSS (L1 + L5), supporting NAVIC, and up to 90fps FHD+ displays. It also includes a strong modem for Gigabit 5G connection.
Qualcomm claims that devices using this chipset may incorporate up to UFS 3.1 onboard storage and LPDDR4x RAM with a clock speed of 2133 MHz. Up to 84-megapixel single camera sensors can be supported by the 12-bit Spectra Image Signal Processor (ISP) on the chipset. Additionally, full-HD+ screens with a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz have been installed.
We may anticipate that the Redmi 5G smartphone would be priced around Rs. 10,000, lowering the price of the Redmi 13C 5G, which was released last year with a starting price of Rs. 10,999. Qualcomm has previously announced that the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 CPU will power under USD 100 (about Rs. 8,375) when it releases in Q4 2024.
