Why A Tweet Loving President-elect Didn’t Invite Twitter’s CEO To A Tech Meeting

For those who have been following the activities of the US President-elect Donald Trump, then you may have heard that he called a meeting with Silicon Valley executives yesterday primarily to bring them up to speed with his agenda even though many of them have said they won’t help the incoming administration set up a Muslim database for example.

The likes of Alphabet CEO Larry Page, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and SpaceX/Tesla CEO Elon Musk were all in attendance but Twitter’s Jack Dorsey wasn’t in attendance. This is not because he declined to go but rather because he wasn’t invited and sources within the Trump team told Reuters that they didn’t think Twitter was a big enough tech company to attend.

But this is from a tweet loving President-elect who has used Twitter as a weapon of choice against his business and political foes over the years.

Twitter is currently valued at $13.85b and have tried to get sold in the past without any success. Twitter has had to fire over 300 staff to maintain a smooth flow of its operation.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey meanwhile hosted Edward Snowden on Periscope to a live interview. Now Edward Snowden is considered a fugitive by the US government. So could this be one of the reasons why Jack Dorsey wasn’t invited to the meeting? Well your guess is as good as mine.

The Obama administration always invited Twitter in the past to such meeting especially when it had to do with policy concerns. Twitter has about 350 million registered users globally

Twitter was also one of the sites accused of not doing enough to check fake news that some think tipped the election in Donald Trump’s favour. In any case, the news here is that Twitter wasn’t invited to the meeting with the President-elect.
