Telegram and Whatsapp will always be rivals, users will always have their favorite. For some, it may be a question of who gets the job done the most, for others, it may simply be a thing of which of these applications they are loyal to or maybe a case of where they have the friends that influence them most. Either way Telegram and WhatsApp are cross-platform instant messaging applications that share similarities and few differences but will continue to compete within the instant messaging space.
Facebook’s servers have taken a toll on users in recent times, something more like a roller-coaster experience. These experiences have also affected its other platforms, Instagram and WhatsApp. The combined effect might have informed Telegram of the need to pick up this slack that has denied millions of users across the globe access to their favorite messaging platforms.
It’s normal to pick up an alternative when something stops working suddenly. That’s might have just been the case here considering the period Facebook experienced high-profile worldwide outages. These experiences have had to come with consequences such as having users migrate to competing services like Telegram. Now the evidence has shown, Telegram hits the 1 billion installs mark in the Google Play Store.
CEO Pavel Durov has disclosed that Telegram managed to pick up some 70 million new users as a result of the high profile outages suffered by rivalry, Facebook. The shake-up has unsurprisingly led to Telegram recording new installs and hitting the 1Billion threshold. The Play Store’s listing has recognized the numbers and has rolled out the lofty 1,000,000,000+.
Telegram is known to be the favourite instant messenger of many in Brazil, it appears in more than half of Brazilian cell phones. The instant messaging system has a pack of exciting features that have taken WhatsApp some years to implement. Many other competitors to Telegram haven’t been able to come close to what Telegram has built over time. The Stickers, support for GIFs, support for multiple devices in the same account, disappearing messages, and accelerated audios, are features users have first experienced using Telegram before alternative platforms.
Although the 1,000,000,000+ marks are a whole lot of phones running on the Telegram framework, WhatsApp still has way more users than Telegram has ever done. Telegram would need to come up with other exciting things to multiply her number twice to reach WhatsApp which already is in the 2,000,000,000+ club.
