WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new feature for its iOS app that would enable users to connect their user profiles to their social network accounts. The iOS version’s new functionality will allow users to link their WhatsApp and Instagram accounts. According to a feature tracker, certain beta testers may have access to the capability, which was found in the latest iOS beta version of WhatsApp. Users will only be able to link their Instagram profiles to their accounts at first, according to sources, but links to other social networking sites could be added in the future. WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo noticed the functionality, which is now under beta testing and is allegedly only available to a small number of testers.
The option to link Instagram profiles to user accounts is being developed by Meta Platforms’ instant messaging client and will be available in a future edition of the program, according to WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo. The WhatsApp Beta for iOS app version 25.7.10.70 was where it was first observed. Adding an Instagram profile link should make it available on the user’s WhatsApp profile, according to screenshots the feature tracker posted. It could show up beneath the user’s name and profile picture.
From choices like Everyone, My contacts, My contacts excluded, and Nobody, they could also be able to select its visibility. According to reports, the capability may be found in WhatsApp’s iOS beta app settings. Interestingly, this is reportedly an optional function, so users of WhatsApp are free to choose not to link their Instagram accounts.
Additionally, it is anticipated that the link will show up beneath the user’s name and profile picture, increasing exposure for users who want to link their accounts across Meta-owned services.
Users will also have the option to manage who may access their connected Instagram page, according to reports. A variety of privacy options, such as “Everyone,” “My contacts,” “My contacts except,” and “Nobody,” are reportedly available on WhatsApp. By doing this, users may be guaranteed complete control over the visibility and privacy settings of their profiles. Users will still have complete control over the functionality, deciding whether or not to link their Instagram account.
Although the article speculates that WhatsApp may expand the functionality to include support for other social media sites as well, namely Facebook and Threads, which are owned by the same tech company, Instagram is now claimed to be the only network supported.
The only social networking site that currently supports this function is Instagram. There is conjecture, though, that WhatsApp would eventually expand its support to other platforms, like Facebook and Threads, which are both under Meta’s ownership. The integration of Meta’s messaging and social networking services might be further streamlined with such an extension.
According to reports, the function is only available to customers who have signed up for Apple’s TestFlight beta program, even though it is still being tested. According to WABetaInfo, the feature is still being developed and will probably be made available to more beta testers in the upcoming weeks.
According to WABetaInfo, this new feature is still being developed and may only be available to beta testers who have signed up through Apple’s TestFlight program. Over the next weeks, more WhatsApp for iOS beta users are expected to receive it.
It was earlier rumoured that WhatsApp for iOS users was developing the similar functionality, although it was only available in preview. Interestingly, WhatsApp Business users already have a similar option, but it requires them to manually validate their profile link by entering into their Instagram account.
A similar feature was previously seen in development for WhatsApp for iOS, although it was limited to preview mode.
