There are now additional capabilities available for status updates when you view a friend’s status on WhatsApp. New status likes and private mentions capabilities are being rolled out for Android and iOS users on the instant messaging network owned by Meta. Tapping the heart emoji to accept a contact’s status update is a new feature called Likes on Status. Users may now tag and mention contacts in their status updates using private mentions. While the mention will not be visible to other users viewing the status, those mentioned can reshare that status to their account. There are already comparable features on Facebook and Instagram.
Share Likes and Private Mentions have been added to the Status function by the firm. The recently introduced Status Likes feature enables users to discreetly convey their gratitude for a status update by utilizing the heart emoji, while Private Mentions allow users to tag particular contacts in their status updates.
WhatsApp Allows Users to Mention Contacts and Like Statuses
WhatsApp published a blog on Thursday announcing significant changes to its Status function. All users of the chat app may now access additional features including private mentions and status likes. Users may simply press the heart emoji to show support for a contact’s status update when they utilize the “like” feature. It functions in a manner akin to enjoying Instagram stories.
Likes on status updates don’t have a counter and are private. The list of viewers does not reveal who has liked the status to anybody other than the person who shared it and It’s good to see that the day has finally come because we weren’t sure when they would become available to everyone.
By touching the heart emoji, users may respond to a contact’s status update by using status likes. There is no counter and no public announcement is made. To keep it private, only the person who posted the status may see who liked it. It’s like when you like a story on Instagram.
Users may now tag and discreetly mention friends in their status updates on WhatsApp thanks to the new Private Mentions feature. It is very simple for the tagged contacts to reshare it with their audience. Similar to tagging friends on Facebook and Instagram stories, this function operates similarly. WhatsApp private mentions are concealed and do not appear in the status.
Users worldwide will soon be able to use the newly launched WhatsApp status features as they begin to roll out. Over the next months, WhatsApp has announced that it would add more functionality to the Status and Updates tabs.
Users can tag their contacts in a status post by using private mentions. The people who have been tagged are notified by private message that they have been tagged. This is helpful for sharing material with a chosen audience instead of your complete contact list, or for showcasing particular individuals within a bigger update. Only the sender and recipient can see private remarks, which stay concealed.
The addition of a second tool for private connections gives users even more control over their experience with the new capabilities. Likes on a status are a subdued method to let someone know you’re aware of them, similar to the bygone era of Facebook pokes. Private mentions, meanwhile, allow you to interact with certain people. As of right now, there is no mention of a status mute option.
These two functionalities are akin to those of existing tools on other Meta platforms. Instagram and Messenger do essentially identical tasks. The biggest texting service in the world is WhatsApp, which makes a difference. It is getting closer to being a stand-alone social network thanks to features like private remarks and status likes.
