What to expect from Apple's iPhone 15 event on September 12

Apple’s next major event titled “Wonderlust is set to be held this September. Apple will unveil the iPhone 15, new Apple Watches, and other devices. The iPhone 15 event ” is scheduled for September 12th, 2023, at 1 PM ET / 10 AM PT.  It will broadcast live from Apple Park in Cupertino, California. Let’s go over new devices to expect from Apple.

The arrival of USB-C is one of the most significant upgrades to this year’s iPhone lineup. The iPhone 15 is rumored to include the widely used port rather than Apple’s proprietary Lightning connector for the first time. This isn’t surprising given that Apple indicated last year that it would switch to USB-C to comply with impending European Union laws.

Rumors claim that the USB-C port would be available on all iPhone 15 models. As for higher data transfer rates, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that only the Pro and Pro Max will benefit from it. According to Kuo, both premium models will include “at least” USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3, while the standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will only support USB 2.0. In any case, according to 9to5Mac, the switch should result in faster 35W charging rates for all iPhone 15 models.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max may also come with some rebranding. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman suggested last year that Apple may change the name to the “Ultra” and the iPhone 15 Max — or Ultra — may be the only one to feature a periscope lens with up to 6x optical zoom.

Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro color options may possibly change. According to 9to5Mac, Apple may abandon its gold finish in favor of a “titan gray.” The business may also introduce a new dark blue option, which it may be hinting at with the blue, gray, and black color scheme featured in the event invitation. The iPhone 15 is said to be available in black, green, blue, yellow, and pink.

In addition to the iPhone 15, Apple is expected to unveil its next wearable lineup – with few major changes so far. Outside of the addition of a darker titanium shell, not much is known about the upcoming update to the luxury Apple Watch Ultra, although reports suggest that the Watch Series 9 will include an enhanced S9 chipset.

Gurman claims that the S9 CPU is based on Apple’s A15 processor, which debuted with the iPhone 13. When compared to its predecessor, which is outfitted with the S8 chip that is built on the same technology as the processors in the previous two Watch models, this could allow for more efficiency and better battery life. The Watch Series 9 is also anticipated to feature a few tiny upgrades, such as a pink color option and a band option with a magnetic buckle.

Modder Ken Pillonel added USB-C to both the AirPods and AirPods Pro cases.

Not only the iPhone 15 but other Apple products are anticipated to support USB-C. According to Gurman, Apple intends to unveil “updated” AirPods with USB-C during its event in September. This is in line with Kuo’s prediction from the previous year when he stated Apple would release AirPods with a USB-C charging case in 2023. Although it’s unclear if Apple will update the AirPods themselves, it’s possible that it will only update the charging case.

Moving on, the release dates for iOS 17 and watchOS 10 will likely be announced at the upcoming Apple event, which will also likely feature a new iPhone and watch. Since Apple often releases its new operating systems in October, we could not see iPadOS 17 and macOS Sonoma until later this fall. However, the beta versions of each of these operating systems have been available for some years, offering us a preview of what is to come.

Other devices Apple is believed to be working on are probably not going to be unveiled at the iPhone 15 announcement. That Includes new iPads and Macs, for which Apple typically hosts a separate event for in October.

We anticipate a new iMac, 13-inch MacBook Air, and 13-inch MacBook Pro powered by Apple’s new internal M3 CPU this fall. The seventh-generation iPad Mini may be released, according to reports regarding the iPad.

All eyes are still focused on the $3,499 Apple Vision Pro, which is scheduled for release early next year, despite the fact that there are so many interesting new products coming out soon. In the months before it launches, there might be some updates.
