US President Names Jobs Recipient For A Posthumous Medal of Freedom

Apple Co-Founder Steve Jobs to Posthumously Receive a Presidential Medal of Freedom - CNET

Apple’s former CEO and co-founder, Steve Jobs will be awarded with a posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden. This announcement was made on Friday at the White House. The award of the Presidential Medal of Freedom is actually the highest recognition that a civilian in the United States can be honoured with.

According to a statement by the White House, this award is usually presented to “individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public or private endeavours.” Asides from Steve Jobs, sixteen other recipients also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Biden.

These seventeen American recipients have done very well for themselves and largely for the nation by demonstrating the power of possibilities and embodying the soul of the nation through hard work, perseverance, and faith. These individuals have achieved impressive accomplishments in the arts and sciences and have overcome significant obstacles that have been surmounted in various ways. They have dedicated their lives to advocating for the most vulnerable among us and acted with bravery to drive change in their various niches, communities and across the world – while blazing trails for generations to come.

Recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden include Khizr Khan Sandra Lindsay, John McCain (posthumous), Diane Nash, Megan Rapinoe, Alan Simpson, Richard Trumka (posthumous), Wilma Vaught, Denzel Washington, Raúl Yzaguirre, Simone Biles, Sister Simone Campbell, Dr Julieta García, Gabrielle Giffords, Fred Gray, Father Alexander Karloutsos and Steve Jobs (posthumous).

Jobs, who died in 2011, founded Apple in April 1976, leading Apple to become one of the biggest tech giants in the world. His vision, imagination and creativity led to the launch of a number of tech products that we enjoy today. These tech products have long become cultural touchstones for the world. These products include the Mac, the iPod, and the iPhone. During his lifetime, he was also the CEO of Pixar and held a leading role at the Walt Disney Company. One of Jobs’ visions was to bring a change to the way the world communicated, as well as transform the computer, music, film and wireless industries which were achieved.

A statement by the White House has praised Steve Jobs and every recipient of the award for their outstanding role and approach to their various endeavours. The Presidential Medal of Freedom will be presented on July 7th.
