Twitter is developing a tool that allows users to feature on other users’ accounts based on their will — undoing “Mentions” without other harsh reactions such as using either the mute or block button. An early concept Twitter developers have iteratively improved over time.
The social media company has reportedly studied its user data, exploring how to curb friendly stalkers from creating pesty attention with tags and mentions, in line with Twitter’s product designer, Dominic Camozzi.
According to Dominic, Twitter users can now control 100 percent of their account whereby you can regulate how you feature on other people’s tweets — ‘unmentioned’ yourself will be available for future unconsenting tags.
Conforming to the mock-ups of this tool, Dominic made It worth noting that the post you unmentioned yourself from remains without you being notified in the future replies or reactions about the exact tweet.
Meanwhile, Twitter’s rival such as Facebook has existed with this tool that untags a user from a post. Twitter’s current development also unlinks you without deleting the original post. Still, Twitter’s Dominic also noted how ‘unmention‘ button is optionally interesting — you can also decide to block certain users from future tags while maintaining a mutual follow relationship.
When you’re freshly tagged, you can also decide to block the particular user from future tags accordingly with the preferred timeline blocking a user should last. It worth noting that you’re only blocking users from tagging you — a different button outrightly blocks a user account.
“Going further about Notifications, if someone you don’t follow @ mentions you, you’ll get a special notification.” Dominic shared a tweet describing the functions of this tool; “If you unmention yourself from there, the Tweet author will not be able to mention you again.”
Twitter’s latest ‘unmention’ yourself button helps social media to curb toxic behaviours. Twitter has also developed a similar tweak that limits the number of welcomed replies, that successfully curbed harassment on its social media.
Conforming to Dominic’s sample of this tweak, it becomes active whence you start receiving notifications continuously that contain a vast amount of mentions. Twitter will then suggest a link to your settings page where you can regulate your availability for mentions.
Unmentioning yourself depicts a vital tool, expected to curbs large-scale harassment — this tool can be used concurrently and proactively. Although, it might not function as “limit replies” that curbed sharing obscene content. Still, it can solely exclude you from being involved with filthy content that virals on social media.
