Ukraine-Russia Crisis: Facebook, Twitter Highlight Security Steps for Users, Including How to Lock Accounts | Technology News

Micro-blogging and social media platform – Twitter has joined the growing list of tech armies that have moved to limit access to various information and abilities that can cause further chaos within the unrest regions via its platform. Twitter has announced temporary restrictions on advertisements in Ukraine and Russia. The social media platform say this decision was reached to ensure the visibility of public safety information.

In a tweet on its platform, Twitter said “We’re temporarily pausing advertisements in Ukraine and Russia to ensure critical public safety information is elevated and ads don’t detract from it.” In the thread, Twitter has identified various ongoing measures it’s already taking to protect users. Some of these measures include suspension of tweet recommendations from people users aren’t following, as well as search and home timeline prompts that helps to direct users to a Twitter Moment that includes digital security information.

The social network has also announced another important measure it’s taking to protect users is by “proactively reviewing tweets to detect platform manipulation” and also taking “enforcement action” against them. The social media network has also disclosed that user accounts belonging to journalists, government officials, activists, and other high-profile accounts are currently been monitored to prevent “targeted takeover or manipulation” that may spread misinformation.

Twitter is another social platform on the Russian list that has since been marked as blocked within the country. Russia has since blocked Twitter as a potential attempt to stifle information related to the escalating conflict in Ukraine. The country has also taken partial action against Facebook and YouTube as well, as a result of the growing unrest between Russia and Ukraine.
