TikTok was the most downloaded app globally in the first quarter of 2022, according to a report published by Sensor Tower. The report titled “Q1 2022: Store Intelligence Data Digest” mentioned that ByteDance-owned TikTok was the number one app worldwide in terms of the number of downloads in the recently-ended first quarter.

These estimates made by Sensor Tower include worldwide downloads for iPhone, iPad, and Google Play for January 1 through March 31, 2022. This excludes pre-installed apps.

In the first quarter, TikTok surpassed an all-time downloads mark of 3.5 billion. It became the fifth app and the only own not belonging to Meta’s family of apps to hit this mark. This proves that the platform is growing astronomically and is also one of the world’s fastest-growing social media platforms.

TikTok has been installed more than 175 million times since the year started. It has also surpassed 10 million downloads for the past nine quarters. YouTube, owned by Google has been within this mark for the past eight consecutive quarters even with Shorts that it introduced to take on TikTok.

Sensor Tower’s report also added that no app has had more downloads than TikTok since 2018 started. WhatsApp had 250 million worldwide downloads as of that time.

As described by many, TikTok is a breath of fresh air. TikTok has managed to stay above other apps as a result of its unique algorithm that’s completely different from other platforms, relevant trends, and various communities that users can feel a part of.

Since it appeared, the company has been working to improve the experiences of users by introducing useful and relevant features. These features help it stand out from other platforms. Essentially, TikTok is a short video-sharing platform. Other platforms use text, pictures, and video features on their platforms but TikTok has remained fixated on being a short video-sharing platform.

Globally, TikTok remained on Apple’s App Store’s top five apps on the basis of download. This list has remained unchanged for the past three quarters. TikTok. TikTok ranks the third most downloaded app in all of Asia (on App Store) despite being banned in India – the world’s second-largest internet market. Imagine what it could be if it wasn’t banned in the country. It ranked seventh on Google’s Play Store.

In the US, TikTok which has been the most downloaded app since the first quarter of 2021 had the most downloads.  It was also the number one app on Google Play for three consecutive quarters. In Europe, the app remains on the top five list. It has been on this list for four consecutive quarters now.
