Popular Chinese-owned social platform –TikTok has commenced testing a new feature that allows users to scroll through content without the hassle of having to interface with various elements such as the username, caption, and audio information that is some users think clutter the screen. The new feature called “Clear Mode” was first spotted last week by social media consultant Matt Navarra who has since shared details via a tweet. This new feature is guaranteed to provide a distraction-free scrolling experience on the app. TikTok has now confirmed that the new feature is now been tested and is currently limited to selected users.

For now, the company is yet to disclose when Clear Mode would now roll out to more users. It is gathered that TikTok has been testing more of these types of quality-of-life features in recent months. For instance, some users recently gained access to a watch history feature that makes it easier to rediscover videos you forgot to like. TikTok has also started testing a way for users to identify comments that they think are irrelevant or inappropriate via a private dislike button. A feature that once a comment is disliked, the dislike won’t go public and commenters won’t be notified that their comment has been disliked.
A screenshot posted by a user has shown that the moment clear mode is activated, such a user is not excluded from seeing usernames, captions, audio information, and much more. In some cases, you can even get rid of the like, comments, and share buttons just to have a completely distraction-free viewing experience.
For users who have previously enrolled for the TikTok new feature test, you can access Clear Mode by long-pressing on a video and tapping the appropriate option. The new feature could be a welcome addition to users who want to get rid of the clutter on-screen and just focus on the content they’re viewing. As this would mean that creators no longer need to re-upload clips people want to screenshot. Often, TikTokers leave a “crop” comment on a video, this happens because a caption or button has obscured part of a video they want to share.
