Threads launched a number of new features on Thursday, including enhanced video playback, feed curating, and profile personalization. Users may now personalize the order of their feed on the Meta-owned microblogging network. According to Threads, users may showcase their favourite communities and hobbies to profile visitors by adding themes for their bios. The video player, post interactivity, and phasing of civic information have all been improved.
The following feed or any custom feed may now be set as the default by Threads users thanks to Meta. The modification is one of several new features in Threads, such as the ability to put subjects in your bio, an improved video player, and the ability to restrict post responses to followers only.
Since the social media network’s December 2023 launch, Threads users have been requesting the ability to make the following feed their default feed, and Meta is now granting their request. You may now choose a custom feed or following as the default, and it will stay that way even if you close and restart the app, thanks to testing of the default feed option late last year.
Up until recently, users could drag down on the main screen of Threads to select between the For you, Following, and Custom feeds. But according to the microblogging site, the most recent feature offers the ability to designate a feed as the default, which will show up first when the program is reopened. You may even make custom feeds the default.
Additionally, Threads claims to be testing a new tool that adds another level of personalization by allowing users to add up to 10 themes to their profile, such as their favourite communities or hobbies. Users may start discussions on a topic on the site by tapping on it. According to Threads, the timely subjects tag has also been modified to increase its visibility on postings in the For You stream. Additionally, while creating a new post, recommended trending subjects or relevant ones can be added to previously published postings. According to the firm, a research it conducted showed that postings with tagged themes have a larger viewership than those without.
Users have the option to only receive responses and quote postings from their followers, expanding on the Quote Controls functionality that was first launched last year. The drop-down menu now includes a new option called “Your followers” in addition to the previous ones. Another significant modification is the addition of skip and rewind buttons to Threads’ built-in video player. Additionally, the player now has the progress bar fixed to them, making it simpler to fast-forward and rewind.
Additionally, Threads is expanding its capabilities for controlling user interaction with your postings. Now that you may restrict responses and quote postings to only your followers, you may be able to reduce the number of individuals that interact with and share your content.
Additionally, Meta is testing the option to include up to ten themes in your profile, allowing you to share your hobbies or preferred communities with others. Prompts to recommend adding a trending topic will also be included in drafts. “Posts with tagged topics typically receive more views than those without, making them an effective way to help you reach more people,” Meta states based on internal statistics.
Finally, a much-needed update is being made to the Threads video player. To make it simpler to navigate through movies, Meta has included a pinned progress indicator in addition to stop, play, and skip controls.
