Andela is a start up founded in Canada by Ian Carnevale, Jeremy Johnson, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, and Christina Sass. The start up was founded to encourage Africans in particular to code and get paid afterwards. The company basically gets you hooked up to tech jobs. Jeremy Johnson recently said he believed that human brilliance is evenly distributed but what is not evenly distributed is opportunity.
With a pilot program in Lagos, reports have it that over 16,000 applications have been received so far. Andela recently raised $10m/1.9b Naira in funding to expand its operations.
There has been a rise in the number of developers across African in the last decade but just as Jeremy Johnson pointed out, opportunity and awareness has always been the problem. From Lagos to Nairobi and to Cairo, the story is the same.
