The state-sponsored social security initiative by the Nigerian federal government has developed a security mobile app christened with a common abbreviation, N-Alerts. The Nigeria Internal Security and Public Safety Alerts System is the mobile app the feds branded as N-Alert to socialize and interact with Nigerians for free to report crime-related events to law enforcement.

The N-Alert mobile app is a social channel for users to report potential crimes before a crime event occurs — users can also report crime instigators. The government spokesman confirmed the N-Alert security channel is linked to various security agencies in Nigeria and it is free for users or whistle-blowers to report crime scenarios and sighted criminals.

The federal government claims the N-Alert mobile app will support real-time security agencies to tackle crime events in line with the tips reported via the N-Alert security channel on a smartphone. The N-Alert social network is developed to report criminal-related events, such as insurgency, suicide, kidnapping, robbery, homicide, etc.

The N-Alert mobile app is a means to promote the pre-existing state-sponsored social security initiative by the Nigerian president, Muhammad Buhari. The feds spokesman said, “N-Alert mobile app utilizes a combination of audio-visual and geospatial location identification of the caller and scenes of incidents on the Ministry Inter-Agency Situation Room (MISR)”.

The fed spokesman also highlighted more scopes about N-Alert. “N-Alert works on the Command and Control Centres, Dashboards of the four services, that is, Immigration service, Correctional service, Federal Fire service, and Civil Defence as well as Police Headquarters for joint inter-agency operations.”
