In what appears to be more of a bounce back for the tech firm, “TD Mobile has signed a major partnership agreement with HMD Global for the distribution of Nokia devices in Nigeria”, Punch reported.
Sometime ago, Nokia was a household name in every Nigerian home. There was Bo use for power banks or a handy charger while you are out visiting a friend- the Nokia pin mouth charger was there to rescue you from low battery problems. The Nokia brand was revered for its durability and long battery life- the perfect feature for the Nigerian market.
However, Nokia lost this prestige to Android phones and was gradually swept off the face of the Nigerian tech market. Very recently, Nokia floored the Nigerian market with its smart phone segment, introducing the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 series, exclusively crafted to deliver Android experience.
TD Mobile is a subsidiary of Technologies Distributors Limited. It said that the partnership agreement included the reinvented version of the popular 3310 mobile phone which was launched at the Mobile World Summit 2017 in Barcelona, Spain early this year.
Mrs. Gozy Ijogun said the agreement between both parties would elucidate to great benefits.
“We are happy to have signed on Nokia, which remains one of the world’s most recognized smartphone brands. Our commitment is, as always, to represent the brand optimally in line with the tradition of excellence we have become renowned for. In line with the foregoing, we will be looking to put the various products from the brand into the hands of millions of consumers through our wide distribution channels and network of resellers”
I hope that the new entrance of the Nokia brand into Nigeria will be sustainable. Many phone users are less concerned about its durability-what the Nokia brand previously offered. Interestingly, the HMD global, the home of Nokia phones, explained at the introduction summit of the new devices in Lagos that the new Nokia products combine superior craftsmanship, distinctive design and powerful entertainment features.
Mrs. Ijogun said further that the “partnership is one that is sure to go a long way, especially in terms of the mutually-beneficial returns and other opportunities it will unlock for both parties”
With the new series that feature Android applications, it will be a healthy competition between the Nokia brand and the others.
