The digital Pay TV company, StarTimes Nigeria has begun operation in Maiduguri, Borno state.
StarTimes had earlier made a promise to ensure that every Nigerian home is able to afford a digital TV in their home with a quality service. Against this backdrop, it has extended its operation in the far Northern part of the country.
The Brand’s Marketing Director, Qasim Elegbede, noted with ecstasy that with starTimes, consumers can afford entertainment at a very affordable rate nationwide. In a statement issued by Mr. Elegbede, the company noted that the company’s expansion is a significant progress and its readiness to offer the best entertainment. The statement read:
‘Subscribers in Maiduguri can now purchase our antenna and decoder for as low as N7,900 and enjoy one-month free subscription. Viewers can look forward to refreshed channels with the very best in local languages and sports entertainment, featuring some familiar faces as well as brand new programming, delivering the best entertainment and sports shows, latest news, highlights and live action from across the globe’
The statement read further that the showcase will include a range of exciting programs for viewers of all ages and gender including sports program, the most-wanted feature for male viewers.
The Chinese Pay TV is working hard to compete against the major Pay TV with the highest customer base, South-African owned digital satellite, DSTV which launched in major parts of Northern Nigeria two years ago.
It should be noted however, that with the absence of TSTV on the block, the competition is no longer fierce-looking. With the interruption of TSTV which promised a lot of unimaginable freebies, StarTimes and DSTV were distraught and for a moment, the struggle for subscribers trended on Twitter. While StarTimes introduced a new subscription plan to delight its customers, GoTV added four new stations for free, exclusive to loyal customers.
Seeing that TSTV is out of sight, sanity may be restored, once again. In one those fiery moments, StarTimes unveiled its plans via Twitter to adopt the Pay-Per-View option, so it doesn’t lose its customers to the new competitor. Nevertheless, the announcement never became a reality; instead, it introduced a new plan that allows its customers to pay as low as N60 per day.
The return of TSTV may be a redemption from exploitation.
