Sony celebrates the 30th anniversary of PlayStation by providing a nostalgic update that allows owners of the PlayStation 5 to relive the 1990s, 2000s, and even the 2010s. The current console becomes a time machine of gaming memories thanks to the software upgrade that is currently being released.
The update’s most notable feature is the renowned PlayStation boot screen from the original system, which has that recognizable sound that instantly makes most gamers (over thirty) smile.
Players can select from a variety of themes when the system first boots up following the update. The PS1 theme uses the console’s recognizable gray box as the background, while the PS2 theme has its own unique 3D menu blocks. Additionally, a unique 30th anniversary theme is offered.
Although the PlayStation 5’s user interface is sleek and functional, it didn’t provide many customization possibilities until this year. Users were able to customize their PS5 home screens in September when Sony released a system upgrade. The parent company of PlayStation has now released a new PS5 feature update that introduces unique style and sound customization options honouring PlayStation’s past. The PS5’s user interface can now be customised to match the designs of other PlayStation system generations.
Sony has released a new PS5 feature that lets users customize the look and sound of the console in honour of PlayStation’s 30th anniversary on December 3. Users can choose themes based on the original PlayStation, PS2, PS3, PS4, and a bespoke 30th anniversary theme using the new functionality.
Players can change the look and feel of their PS5 to resemble earlier PlayStation generations with a few clicks. But if you want to take this trip down memory lane, act quickly because these nostalgic themes won’t be accessible for long.
The themes closely adhere to the aesthetics of the chosen console generation and feature unique graphic elements, colour schemes, and auditory cues throughout the PS5’s home screen and other menus. Along with the themes, the PS5 now launches with the PS1’s recognizable start-up screen and sound, then the logo commemorating its 30th anniversary.
When you turn on your PS5, you get a notification about PlayStation’s 30th anniversary and the upgrade that comes with it. According to the message, “December 3, 2024, is the anniversary of the PlayStation launch thirty years ago.”
“We’ve added a few elements to take you on a journey through PlayStation’s history in honour of the company’s 30th anniversary.
Choose a design from one of the earlier PlayStation generations to join us in celebrating. Additionally, you can return it to the original PS5 design.
A 30th anniversary option has been added to the PS5’s settings menu, allowing users to choose from visual and aural themes that honour PlayStation consoles throughout history. However, the customization choices are only available for a short period of time.
Sony released a PS5 system upgrade in September that included a Welcome Hub on the home screen. This hub lets users customize the backdrop image, choose and equip several widgets, and more.
Although it will cost you some money, Sony has produced a 30th anniversary set that includes Portal, Dualsense controllers, and PSOne-themed PS5 consoles for those who prefer a more tangible vintage experience.
Along with launching a PlayStation Store sale that will run until December 20 and a tribute movie showcasing some of PlayStation’s most memorable games, Sony is also holding a sweepstakes that will give lucky winners 30 months of PS Plus.
