Some Twitter News For You; Twitter To Drop The 140 Character Rule In DMs, CEO To Step Down And More

Twitter will finally abolish its 140 character limitations in direct messages (DM). “We’ve done a lot to improve Direct Messages over the past year and have much more exciting work on the horizon. One change coming in July that we want to make you aware of now (and first!) is the removal of the 140 character limit in Direct Messages”, says Sachin Agarwal, Product Manager for Direct Messages at Twitter.

The statement reads that tweets will continue to be limited to 140 characters. This has been a distinguishing factor for Twitter among other social media companies. Since its launch individuals and organisations have used this medium to make important announcements. Twitter is vigorously looking for new ways to keep existing users while encouraging more people to join its about 300 million user base. Facebook’s Instagram last year was reported to have surpassed Twitter in user base and many more social media platforms like Snapchat pose a threat especially among younger users.

In a development that could help Twitter achieve this, you can now see tweets by popular individuals and organisations directly from Google search. So should you not be a Twitter user and want to see more, you would have to get an account.

In other Twitter news, the embattled Twitter CEO Dick Costolo is stepping down after five years at the helm of affairs at Twitter. You can read about all that from the New York Times website.
