Snapchat Now Has More Active Daily Users Than Twitter

Bloomberg reported yesterday that the four year old messaging Snapchat now has more daily users than Twitter. Recently valued at about $18b/5.7tr Naira, Snapchat now has 150 million daily users as opposed to Twitter’s 140 daily active users.

Snapchat is a top choice for teenagers probably because of its auto delete feature after you may have opened a message. Messaging on Snapchat is “very modern,” Twitter Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey said on Wednesday at Recode’s technology conference. This admission from Mr. Dorsey tells you what’s wrong with Twitter which still remains the top choice for corporate announcements. Twitter has tried over the past two to three years to restructure its administration which is why Jack Dorsey was brought back to Twitter in the first place. With plans to eliminate @names and other special characters from being counted in the 140 character rule, Twitter is trying to position itself for new social media realities. With about 310 million users, advert revenues are still not as good as investors would want.

Instagram is also another service that is now bigger than Twitter in terms of user base. Official figures from Facebook puts Instagram at 400 million users.

In the video department, Snapchat seems to be doing well as you see in the report from last year. As at September last year, 4 billions videos were viewed daily on Snapchat which made it a main competitor to Facebook videos at the time.
