Snapchat has launched a novel AI feature that will allow users to create images of themselves with fantastical themes. The feature, “Dreams“, allows users to create different scenes with images of themselves being in different scenarios, including outer space, deep in the ocean, etc. The feature, though available in New Zealand and a few select countries, is yet to be launched globally.

The Dreams tab has been added to the Memories tab as a new tab and allows users to take selfies that will be converted by the generative AI model. The first pack of Dreams which includes eight images, will be free to users. Subsequently, additional packs can be purchased for 1 dollar.

This feature, though new to Snapchat, is not new to most internet and TikTok users, as many AI photo apps already provide these senses. One of these apps that went viral in 2022 is the Lensa photo app. It also helped users create fantastical semblance photos with the use of generative AI. Another such app, Remini, went viral on TikTok in July. It allowed users to create professional looking headshots for their profiles.

Dreams, though similar to many of these apps, will allow users to immerse their likeness into generative AI powered fantastical realms. Although novel, the launch of Dreams does not come as a surprise to many, as it was spotted earlier this spring. During the pre-launch, reverse engineer, Alessandro Paluzzi revealed the major feature of the app to users.

The Dreams feature is yet another addition to the list of AI generative features provided by Snapchat, the most popular on that list being the AI-powered chatbot, My AI. The My AI chatbot is an interactive, AI-powered chatbot that generates answers as well as snaps to questions asked by users. It is another AI generative feature.
