Online social media and social networking service, Facebook and 85-year old luxury sunglasses and eyeglasses bran, Ray-Ban anticipated collaboration have been sending shivers down the spine of the users for a while now, especially with the pair giving their customers teasers of their smart glasses collaboration. But then, pictures have gotten leaked on the internet, ahead of the announcement, with the news that the new tech piece will officially launch today.
The pictures reportedly leaked by American blogger, editor, and phone leaker, Evan Blass, nicknamed ‘Evleaks’, showed three models, with the name ‘Ray-Ban stories’. The smart glasses are paired with cameras on each side, with a button on the top right that is expected to be used for turning the camera, a feature that highlighted Ray-Ban classic frames. Apart from the outward configuration and packaging, it doesn’t appear that Facebook has any of its logo or branding imprints on the glasses.
The three models is expected to offer three unique frame styles; Wayfarer, Round, and Meteor, a new order that will preserve the authenticity of the product.
CEO and Founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg had in the past opined that the glasses possess glasses “have Ray-Ban’s iconic form factor and they let you do some pretty neat things.”
Despite the fact that tech enthusiasts had predicted the inclusion of AR functions in the smart glasses, it appears it won’t be the case in the release, even as the complete functions of the glasses are at most vague and unclear.
The Facebook CEO had earlier asserted that the new product will be part of the company’s “journey towards full augmented reality glasses in the future,” with more advanced AR glasses presumed to still be in the testing trials.
The leaked images also do not currently release more information on how Facebook will leverage on this major collaboration with Ray Ban but users will get the answers to their inquisitiveness and questions hopefully today when it officially get launched.
