Samsung unveiled its Tizen powered Gear S3 smartwatches; Classic and Frontier at the IFA trade show in Berlin. The two models have different styles but almost the same specifications.

The wearables allow LTE features which turns them into smartphones. They have also the following

  • Battery: 380mAh which they say can last up to four days once charged and this can be doubled on battery saver
  • IP68 water resistance rating and dust proof
  • Processor: 1 GHz dual-core
  • Handwriting recognition
  • Operating system: Tizen plus iOS support in open beta
  • Display: 1.3″ circular, 360x360px, Gorilla Glass SR+; Full colour Always-on display
  • Wrist band design and size: Leather/rubber; standard 22mm
  • Chassis: 316L stainless steel
  • RAM: 4GB and 768MB
  • Built in GPS for navigation
  • Samsung Pay support

Other features include speedometer and barometer for weather tracking, distance measurement tool for those who want to keep a track of that. The Gear S3 allows you get in touch with emergency services like your smartphone and allows you accept or decline calls without you having to touch your watch screen.

So I said while they may have those similarities, they have slight differences as well and one of them is the Wi-Fi only on the Classic and 3G/LTE on the Frontier.

The S3 predecessor S2 will still on be sale for now at least. The S3 is thicker than the S2 by 1.5mm as well

Expect an Apple response next week with the Apple Watch 2
