It all started with a picture, a roll up scroll that does not really look like anything familiar. A curious questioning revealed a name “Roll Top” Laptop? Tv? Tablet? The answer came in the form of both a yes and a no.
The roll top, a brain child of a group of people with various backgrounds in it. Design and business administration – with the same name (Roll Top) while we have had various laptops, and its attendant complaints……Too big, too small, graphics low, i want to use mine as a “movie-viewer”, no, i will rather use mine as a games machine, and we could go on and on; but it is this gap in what you can use the “top” for, carriage, portability etc that the roll top has stepped in to cure.
The official rolltop website defines it as follows:
“Rolltop is a portable computer development concept for designer, architect and everyone, who would like to have a gadget, which, from an aesthetic standpoint alone, certainly hits the mark. By virtue of the OLED-Display technology and a multi-touch screen the utility of a laptop computer with its weight of a mini-notebook and screen size of 13 inch easily transforms into the graphics tablet, which with its 17-inch flat screen can be also used as a primary monitor due to the support attached to the back of the screen.”
The following are the various “goodies” it comes pre-packged with: The Rolltop 2.0 is envisioned as having a flexible OLED (organic light-emitting diode) multi-touch display (perhaps similar to Sony’s) that can be used as a 13-inch laptop screen or full 17-inch monitor with a stand attached to the device.
While we have been having this reading as if this product is taking over already, well as still have to hold our horses tight as apparently, it is a design that is just in its incubation stage, but ready to take over the market that is orderly comfortably settled in the hands of laptops.
If peradventure you are interested in speeding up the fruition of this rolltop though, and have some money you “are not using”, then roll top invites partnership to bring its child from pregnancy to birth. The future is here, just jump on the roll!
