For most users around the world, Reddit the popular social media platform ceased working earlier today, leaving users unable to access their timelines. The website Reddit refused to load and showed the error message “Oops, something went wrong, please try again later” for almost an hour.
The platform announced, “An issue with a Reddit backend has impacted many users on our site,” on its status page at 12:52 PM ET. Later, the website claimed to have “identified the issue” and to be “remediating it.” Based on the significant rise in outage complaints that Downdetector recorded at 12:45 PM ET, the outage appears to have started around that time.
In a bid to escalate the disruption, Reddit users made jokes about not being able to access their favourite website at the moment on other social media networks. @LinuxLiaison on X formerly known as Twitter says, “REDDIT IS DOWN D,” followed by a funny mimic by SpongeBob SquarePants.
It appears that Reddit resolved similar issues earlier in the day as well. Around noon ET, according to its status page, another issue was rectified. Reddit is back online, so everyone who uses it can go about their daily lives—replies, comments, lurkers, and posters of all colours. The company confirmed that the service disruption has been fixed, and the platform is now operational again.
