MTN Group Cloud Centre of Excellence and Project Nephos cloud program has reportedly commenced in line with Microsoft’s commitment to leverage the telecom giant cloud service innovation. This publication is a follow-up on the pre-existing partnership MTN co-signed with the software giant which currently projects the excellent cloud centre.

Microsoft Azure will lead MTN’s Group Cloud Centre of Excellence and Project Nephos cloud innovation whereby several businesses served by the telecom group will be incorporated with the software giant’s cloud network. The project is schemed to enhance MTN’s telecom service — an approach to systemic cloud solutions applicable to evolve other services.

MTN Group Chief Information Officer, Nikos Angelopoulos, confirmed the development impacted by the partnership they had with Microsoft obliges both tech companies to be committed to deploying emerging technology. The telecom giant said that the Cloud Centre of Excellence and Project Nephos program will be available for MTN Nigeria and its South African marketplace.

“Work has already begun with the establishment of MTN Group Cloud Centre of Excellence and Project Nephos to migrate, carefully selected, business applications to Azure. MTN and Microsoft will work closely with Accenture who will be providing technology implementation, integration, and support services to successfully enable the migration and operations of the targeted environments,” the MTN blog reads.

MTN has several business support system applications and operation support system applications that will be migrated into Project Nephos – the excellent cloud data centre. The cloud service will be deployed in the significant market where MTN service is operational – backed by Microsoft’s Azure Cloud Services, MTN will innovate its homegrown marketplace and expand towards West Africa.

Angelopoulos said MTN’s “strategic partnership with Microsoft will enable us to transform the way we deliver products and services to our customers. The telecom group is keen on leading seamless innovation within its operational marketplace where the Nephos cloud computational approach will alter commerce. Nephos – the telecom group altered cloud solution as a service suitable to access mobile networks, IT management, and commercializing IoT

“We remain focused on nurturing the digital skills within MTN and in the societies we operate in and building digital platforms to drive digital transformation across Africa and the Middle East.” It becomes less intriguing realizing that Microsoft Azure Cloud Services will alter MTN Group’s penetration into the artificial intelligence ecosystem that trends today’s tech market.

Microsoft has reportedly led AI innovation via OpenAI technology to impact the AI technology innovation with the telecom service provider. This denotes that the MTN AI indulgence is not limited to cloud service, yet computing machine learning algorithms that migrate significant telecom solutions in the Azure cloud.

The telecom group also revealed that its in-house extensive core big data platform, EVA will pioneer the OSS & BSS application migration with the Azure Cloud Service.
