YouTube has announced it is to launch a dedicated site and app for gaming. It is widely believed that Google aims to take on Twitch which Amazon bought for about $970m/ 192b Naira last year. Google reportedly made a bid for Twitch but Amazon beat them to it. YouTube has launched a series of products to attract more people to its platform with more interesting features. For example, Music Insights is a feature to provide more data to artist and fans alike, YouTube for kids is also recent innovation from the search giant to create better family time on its platform.
Alan Joyce who is the Product Manager at YouTube said “On YouTube, gaming has spawned entirely new genres of videos, from let’s plays, walkthroughs, and speedruns to cooking and music videos. Now, it’s our turn to return the favour with something built just for gamers.”
This service is expected to launch anytime this summer. So my best guess would be July.
