Twitter has announced that its Clubhouse rival called Spaces will be available to anyone with at least 600 followers. What this means is that Twitter users with at least 600 followers will be able to host the live audio conversation feature. Unlike Clubhouse, Twitter’s Spaces is available to both users of Android and Apple devices.
Twitter says that it arrived at the ‘600 followers’ mark after gathering feedbacks from its readers. “These accounts are likely to have a good experience hosting live conversations because of their existing audience. Before bringing the ability to create to create a Space to everyone, we’re focused on learning more, making it easier to discover Spaces, and helping people enjoy them with a great audience”, Twitter said in a statement.
Twitter also revealed that Spaces would be seeing some changes in the future; that a feature called Ticketed Spaces would be added soon. The plan with Ticketed Spaces is to reward Spaces hosts. The feature will allow hosts to sell tickets to people to join in on their Spaces, more like paying to attend a show. Hosts will earn majority of the revenue from the sales of tickets while twitter keeps a small amount as well. Twitter also promises to roll of a reminder feature that will help users be able to track their favourite Spaces.
Twitter also revealed that Spaces will be upgraded to be able to enable hosts allow other people to co-host with them. Co-hosts will be able to help hosts with managing speakers, participants, etc.
Clubhouse has set a new trend of audio-chatting and many social media platforms are jumping on it. Many social media platforms have come up with a Clubhouse-like feature on their platform. Reddit recently launched its Clubhouse clone called Reddit Talk. Many other platforms are expected to launch their own Clubhouse clones soon.
