Just this past September, Facebook CEO announced that his company had decided to consider the request by many users to have a dislike button on the website. At the time the media including us began to analyse and predict what this would eventually be like. At least the wait is over and we now know that it isn’t actually what we were thinking.
In a Facebook post, the CEO said “people have asked us to add a “dislike” button. Not every moment is a good moment, and sometimes you just want a way to express empathy. These are important moments where you need the power to share more than ever, and a Like might not be the best way to express yourself.” My guess is that Facebook doesn’t want to just provide a dislike button like that and is considering that its 1.5 billion users may want to express how they feel at the time or the degree to which they may dislike a post.
We now know that this would come in form of empathetic emojis. This is going to be rolled out in Spain and Ireland and then if Facebook decides to go with this new style, then it will become available to all users.
