Tesla Announces Delivery Of Record 343,830 Vehicles In Third Quarter

Electric car maker, Tesla has announced that it has delivered about 343,830 vehicles in the third quarter making a new record in the process.

This can be said to be a massive turnaround from earlier this year, as it grappled with many challenges ranging from a shutdown at its China factory amid challenges around opening factories in places like Berlin and Austin affecting dictating how many vehicles it was able to get into customers’ driveways.

But it should be noted that the comeback and new record of Tesla’s third-quarter delivery figure still fell short of Wall Street forecasts, which had forecasted a range between 358,000 and 371,000 vehicles, depending on the polled group.

The new third quarter delivery also had a larger -than-usual gap between production and delivery numbers, with the company producing 365,923 vehicles in the third quarter.

The production and delivery charts can be seen in the image below.

The company while ruing the WSJ forecast miss blamed it on the incapacitation of the logistics network it relies on to ship vehicles to customers.

The company in statement explained this further when it said:

“As our production volumes continue to grow, it is becoming increasingly challenging to secure vehicle transportation capacity and at a reasonable cost during these peak logistics weeks”.

In Q3, we began transitioning to a more even regional mix of vehicle builds each week, which led to an increase in cars in transit at the end of the quarter. These cars have been ordered and will be delivered to customers upon arrival at their destination”, Tesla said.

The American multinational automotive and clean energy company is by this admission poised to evolving beyond its legendary end-of-the-quarter pushes, with CEO Elon Musk on Sunday tweeting that the company will be looking out for a steadier approach.

“Customer experience suffers when there is an end of quarter rush. Steady as she goes is the right move,” he tweeted.
