Shopify And Pinterest Join The Campaign to Restrict The Outgoing U.S. President From Their Platforms

Lately, the outgoing U.S. president Donald Trump has been restricted from posting on the internet – high profiled social media companies such as Facebook and Instagram, and Twitter started the campaign to kick Trump off their social platforms. Shopify is blocking stores that relate to the Trump campaign while Pinterest is limiting the spread of Trump related hashtags.

Trump has reportedly used his influence to instigate violence, promote hate speeches, and share false information overtime, which violate the rules of online engagement.

The aftermath of the event that sprung at the Capitol Hill earlier this week was a peaceful mob of Trump supporters assembled in Washington. The outgoing president took advantage of the peaceful protest with a viral video encouraging the crowd to go bad. The riot escalated to disrupting the ongoing Congress meeting.

Trump’s refusal to accept President-elect Joe Biden led to the Congress meeting at Capitol Hill on Wednesday, assessing the 2020 November election aiming to spot the flaw that proves a rigged election.

The riot that occurred in the U.S. Capitol was triggered by the president’s posts on his social media platforms. Without delay, social media companies autonomously suspended Trump’s account. Shopify and Pinterest joined the campaign to excommunicate the ex-U.S. president from using their platforms.

Even TikTok – the Chinese app Trump spent half his tenure trying to restrict the company from operating on American soil joined other tech firms. They also joined the campaign in suspending the outgoing president’s account for spreading false information about an unfair election and promoting violence.

Afterward, a series of hashtags went viral on social platforms like Snapchat, Pinterest, Reddit, Shopify, Twitter, TikTok, and Facebook. On Friday, Twitter finally blocked Trump’s account because the initial 12-hour suspension was a forewarning for him to stop violating rules that regulate socializing online.

While the 12-hour suspension was over, the president went online to invoke his supporter’s attention on Twitter. He tweeted that he will not be attending President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony.

If Trump eventually misses Biden’s inauguration, it will be recorded as the first outgoing president that missed his successor’s inaugural events. Quite remarkable!

Based on Trump’s ideology – ‘American Patriots’ are those who think the 2020 November election was rigged, especially those that instigated the havoc at Capitol Hill.

It was ideal as Facebook placed the outgoing president’s account on an indefinite suspension. Hopefully, Facebook will revert their suspension after president-elect Joe Biden is sworn-in as the 46th American President.

Facebook Newsroom posted “We believe the risks of allowing President Trump to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great, so we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks.”

Remember, Google’s YouTube instantaneously deleted the live video Trump shared that further stirred up the Washington riot on Wednesday.
