Some may think overdue considering its size but the management of Pinterest think it’s the right time to launch its “buyable pins” service which now sort of adds an ecommerce feature to the social media company. If you know how Pinterest works, you pin items you like on your dashboard only this time having teamed up with some major retailers, you can now buy some of the items you pin.
Ecommerce seems to be the trend among social media companies with Facebook launching its own “buy now” service. It just seems normal that this would be a trend considering the “huge” user base these platforms have.
Once this service launches, you can click the “buy now” button in the top right corner of the page. You can use your credit card or Apple pay.
How does this eventually profit Pinterest?
Pinterest won’t be taking commissions on the purchases but would rather charge to promote pins. This is more like an ad service
Pinterest raised $200m last year to value it at $5b. It is currently worth about $11b according to Inc.
