Listen To Recorded Twitter Spaces On iOS, Android, And The Web

Twitter releases a new update to Spaces. With the new and improved update, users can now listen to recordings of Spaces across iOS, Android, or the web.  This update is said to come in very handy for users who are late to a live broadcast and like to go back and listen. This update shows up after Clubhouse a close rival within the audio space rolled out recordings for its audio-only chatrooms far back in September.

The company discloses this update earlier via a tweet. Although the ability to record Spaces of Twitter is also given to some hosts on both iOS and Android the option to listen is given to everyone on both platforms and including the web. Previously, before the announcement, only iOS users could listen to and record Spaces until but now that has changed.

For a host to start recording a Space conversation, the “Record Space” option needs to be toggled. When the recording is enabled, a (REC) icon appears for the host and participants to see — all listeners will see the icon, but the icon won’t be displayed in the recording afterward. When Space conversation comes to an end, only the hosts can see the number of people that participated in the Space and can tweet out a link to the recording. Hosts also have the ability to choose the time that the Space starts playing as well, allowing hosts to edit out any silence at the beginning of the recording.

According to Twitter’s help center, recordings will be publicly available only when a recording-enabled Space ends. The help centers also stated that a recording remains private only when deleted, but bear in mind that Twitter holds onto these recordings for the next 30 to 120 days to check for any violation of rules.

Twitter has continually shown interest in expanding its audio-only chatrooms abilities since the feature launched in 2020. The last 1-year has been shocking as the Spaces has received tremendous upgrades over and over again. Back in the month of September, Twitter started allowing hosts to add up to three Topics to their Spaces, such as Music, Gaming, and Entertainment, giving listeners more room to find Spaces that ultimately resonates with their interests. Also ticketed Spaces was launched on iOS for hosts that preferred to charge listeners for listening. A Spaces accelerator program was introduced, a 3-months program to pay and reward creators with resources to promote their Spaces. This creator reward program is reported to be similar to the three-month creator program social network audio-only app Clubhouse proposed in March 2021.
