The Legion Glasses was unveiled at IFA 2023, and I must say, I’m impressed with its performance at least from different reviews of those who tried it out, especially compared to previous Lenovo AR headsets.
The Legion Glasses are essentially a pair of glasses that serve as an external monitor for devices supporting screen pass-through for augmented reality glasses. While they shine brightest when paired with the Legion Go and Legion 9i, they’re versatile enough for other devices too.

The Specs That Matter
Once connected, you’re greeted with a virtual 27-inch monitor that boasts a 60Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution per eye. Thanks to a microLED panel, the display quality is top-notch, although it might not match the Legion Go and Legion 9i’s screens.

A Portable Device for Gamers
What’s fantastic is the sheer convenience of these glasses. They plug into a USB-C port and come equipped with built-in speakers, sound and brightness controls, and a “unpin” button to shift the virtual screen from your direct view.

Availability and Price
The Legion Glasses are set to hit the market in October, alongside the Legion Go, and they’ll retail for $329.

Seamless Compatibility
During my test, the Legion Glasses worked seamlessly with Lenovo’s latest gaming machines, the Legion Go and Legion 9i. While the Legion Go immediately recognized the headset and mirrored the screen, the Legion 9i required a bit more setup due to Windows 11 recognizing the glasses as an additional monitor.

Comfort and Gameplay
The Legion Glasses, despite their bulk and a 4-foot USB-C cable, are remarkably comfortable. They allow you to immerse yourself fully in your game, providing a surreal experience.

A Few things to note
However, these glasses do have some quirks. They are bulkier than regular glasses and block your direct line of sight, making them less suitable for walking around. But for gaming, they’re excellent.
The picture quality is impressive, with no noticeable pixelation or latency. Motion sickness and headaches, common in traditional VR devices, are absent here.

Limitations
But there are limitations. The Legion Glasses offer 1080p per eye and a 60Hz refresh rate, which may not satisfy hardcore videophiles accustomed to higher resolutions and refresh rates offered by the Legion Go and Legion 9i.

Moreover, these glasses don’t have their power supply; they draw power from the device they’re connected to. Lenovo claims they consume only 2W, but prolonged usage might impact your device’s battery life.

Lenovo’s journey into augmented reality hasn’t been without its challenges, but the Legion Glasses might just change the game. Unlike previous attempts, these glasses are compatible with Windows and support a wide range of games and software. They even work with Android and iOS devices, making them more versatile than ever. Smart glasses are not so popular compared to other mobile and wearable devices.

While the $329 price tag may be on the high side at least considering the economy these days, the Legion Glasses offer numerous reasons to consider them. They mark a significant step in the evolution of gaming tech, and Lenovo’s commitment to compatibility could be the key to their success. Whether they become a hit remains to be seen, but one thing is clear – Lenovo is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in gaming.
