This year’s WWDC has incredibly opened us up to a bevvy of new features for the forthcoming iOS 16. Major features coming to the new iOS include an improved lock screen with widgets, some welcome updates to Messages for the typo-prone users, a powerful Live Text feature, shared iCloud photo libraries, and much more. If you’ve got an Apple developer account, you can download the developer beta to get a first-hand look at it and its remarkable abilities.
But note that the beta software is not the finished product. Downloading the iOS 16 developer beta could mean that some apps and features could be a bit wonky, fair warning, be prepared. In order for your Apple device not to act up on you, we highly recommend that you download the developer beta and test it on an iPhone that isn’t your daily driver. If that’s not an option for you, it’s fair to wait for the beta to hit the public before trying it out, Public beta arrives next month. And as always, back up your device before attempting to download the developer beta version just in case anything goes wrong.
To download the iOS 16 developer beta, here is how:
Log in to the Apple developer site on your mobile. (An active account which costs $99 annually is required) Be prepared to go through two-factor authentication.
In the menu bar, you’ll need to scroll down and tap the Downloads button.
Tap Install Profile and then Tap Allow.
Head to the Settings app. You should see the Profile Downloaded option right under your Apple ID profile.
Tap Install. You’ll be prompted to enter your passcode. Once that’s done, hit Install two more times after reading the terms and conditions agreement.
Your phone will need to restart. After, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
Tap Download and Install. If you’re developing an app, go to Settings > General > Privacy & Security. Scroll down and toggle on Developer Mode to access the required app development features. That’s it! It’s time to poke around the new iOS 16 and have fun while you do.
