The I/O 2022 event couldn’t have ended without Google giving us a glimpse of the next set of its newest smartphones. Google confirms the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will be coming this fall. Google showed off renders of both devices during the I/O keynote, giving us an early look and feel of the design on offer. The new Pixel device presents the modest update of last year’s design that keeps the horizontal camera bar but tones it down a little with updated camera cutouts.
The 7 and 7 Pro will debut with the next-gen Tensor chipset as well as with Android 13. The new Tensor design would bring AI breakthroughs and new experiences across speech, imaging, video, and security. The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are purely designed to deliver the “most helpful, most personal experience” you can get on a smartphone, and that’s facilitated by Google’s next-gen Tensor platform. As already mentioned both devices will run Android 13, and Google is likely to maintain its usual cadence of three platform updates and five years of security patches.
Of course, the Pixel 7 phones feature an improved version of the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro designs with the prominent horizontal camera bump wrapping around the back. The camera bar of the Pixel 7 is made of aluminum that extends into the side rails, rather than last year’s which has a big black bar that cuts off at the edges.
The Pixel 7 Pro features a triple rear camera system, the standard wide, the ultrawide, and the telephoto configuration. just like the 6 Pro. Nothing much changes with the two rear cameras of the standard Pixel 7, it appears similar to the standard Pixel 6.
Lastly, there appears to be no “kinda coral” color options amongst the lineup showcased today. Although today’s announcement fairly lacks all the juicy details, it’s expected that further details would be available by the launch. Google utilized the opportunity at the I/O event to stay a step ahead of inevitable leaks that may occur prior to the launch of the device. The company is also taking the opportunity to remind us all that it’s really serious about making true flagship phones. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro were the first devices that almost proved that of course with their excellent hardware features but at the same time no, because they had one too many software problems. Fingers are crossed to find out what the Pixel 7 devices can do.
