Elon Musk Shakes Up Twitter: The Unthinkable Tweet Caps

In a surprising twist, Elon Musk, set the tweeting world ablaze with a groundbreaking announcement on Saturday. Brace yourselves, folks, because there are now limits on the number of tweets you can read per day!

To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied the following temporary limits:

– Verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts/day
– Unverified accounts to 600 posts/day
– New unverified accounts to 300/day

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 1, 2023

Twitter, in its ongoing battle against “data scraping and abuse”, has implemented these tweet reading limits. But as with any change associated with Musk’s Twitter, there’s a monetization angle to it. Verified (paid) users get the privilege of enjoying a higher tweet quota each day. So, the playing field is not entirely level.

Let’s break down the new limits, shall we? Verified account holders are granted a maximum of 6,000 tweets per day, while unverified account holders must make do with a cap of 600 tweets per day. These limits apply to all tweets—whether they’re from people you follow, people you don’t follow, or even search results.

If you dare to exceed your daily tweet limit, brace yourself for an error message. You’ll have to patiently wait until the next day to indulge in more Twitter consumption. Oh, the agony!

But fret not! There are a few cheeky workarounds to stretch those tweet-reading boundaries, even if they may feel a tad uncomfortable. You can rely on Twitter’s search feature to track down specific tweets that tickle your fancy. Alternatively, you can prune your following list to focus on a select few accounts. And if that’s not enough, you can always resort to third-party apps that let you read tweets to your heart’s content.

While the tweet limit is not set in stone, users are already voicing their discontent. Some are even clamouring for Jack Dorsey’s return, despite him spearheading a Twitter competitor, BlueSky. Only time will tell if Twitter will revise the limit or scrap it altogether. The plot thickens!

But why would Elon Musk’s Twitter join the ranks of the tweet limiters? Well, the motive behind Twitter’s move is clear: combatting the plague of spam and abuse that plagues the platform. Those pesky spammers often deploy armies of bots to flood Twitter with a barrage of tweets, making it arduous for users to sift through genuine content. By curbing the number of tweets users can read, Twitter hopes to erect a barrier against these bothersome spammers—at least that seems to be the intention.

The implications of Twitter imposing this tweet limit are still up for debate. Some argue that it might hinder users from staying well-informed about the latest happenings on the platform. On the flip side, others believe it could help curtail the rampant spam and abuse that has marred Twitter’s reputation.

As the dust settles, we can only wonder what the long-term implications of this tweet limit will be. It’s undoubtedly a significant change for the platform, and we eagerly anticipate how users will react.

So, what can you do if you find yourself grumbling about the tweet limit? Well, you have options, my friend. Reach out to Twitter directly and voice your concerns. Let them know your thoughts on this new development. Alternatively, you can explore the vast array of third-party apps available that allow you to bypass the tweet limit and read to your heart’s content. After all, where there’s a will, there’s a workaround!

Let’s stay tuned as the tweet limit saga continues to unfold. Who knows what twists and turns lie ahead in the ever-evolving realm of social media?
