Facebook wants you to connect more with people and this time, they want to encourage you to connect more with strangers. They are rolling out a feature called “Discover People” which encourages you to update your profile and by so doing, you’ll be able to see upcoming events in your area as well as a list of those attending. You’ll even be able to see connections between people in the same city like employment among others.

The told TechCrunch that “Discover People,” if available to you, is found in the navigation section below Friends, Events, Groups, Nearby Places, and other options. Facebook commonly adds and removes new features here as means of testing user engagement and interest. For example, this is where you’ll find more recent additions, like Offers, Find Wi-Fi, and Send or Receive Money, to name a few.

Discover People

The feature is rolling out to iOS and Android users and is yet to reach all users at this time.

“Discover People” comes as “Conversation Topic” was noticed by an eagle eye Messenger users last October to help you break the conversation ice with your contacts. It does this by suggesting topics around your friends’ activities which should help you strike a conversation with them easily.

But all of this comes from other people knowing about you each time you maybe declare interest in an events or added a new genre to your interests. The big problem of course here is privacy and for the new feature to work, then strangers in your area must be able to learn more about you. The other thing here is that for this feature to be used effectively, you won’t have control over your privacy.
