Pinterest has announced an additional investment of $1.2 million to its Pinterest Creator Fund initiative. While the additional fund is an extension of the program and will run through the whole of 2022, it will be focused on underrepresented groups of creators. The additional fund will come in a combination of cash grants, ad credits and other creator resources, according to Pinterest.
The company also did announce that the program will be broken into four cycles of five weeks throughout the year so that it’ll allow for more personalized training. These five weeks, according to Pinterest will enable creators to gain access to more dedicated time and resources.
The cycles which will come one per quarter will focus on fashion/beauty, wellness, lifestyle/home and food. The initial cycle will be sponsored by L’Oreal USA, the company shared.
The company also announced plans to extend the creator fund into additional markets by the second half of 2022. “The creativity that comes from underrepresented communities is far too often overlooked, and the Creator Fund looks to not only reverse that but also reduce barriers of entry for them to be successful. The expansion of the fund unlocks even more opportunities to uplift and reward some of the most gifted creatives out there. That means more creativity, more content across various interests, more representation and more inspiration,” Pinterest creator inclusion lead Zeny Shifferaw said in a statement.
Pinterest debuted the creator fund last year with $500,000 alongside new content policies and new creator tools. Participants of this initiative stand the chance to learn how to make the best Idea Pins and how to deliver inspiring, timely and trendy content on the platform. They will also receive opportunities that include partnerships with brands, access to creator-focused conferences, the prerogative to test new Pinterest products as well as $25,000 (in the form of ad credits, a cash grant and an equipment stipend).
According to Pinterest, past participants saw an average increase of 60 percent in their followers after completing the program.
“The Pinterest Creator Fund program was a tremendous opportunity for me because it helped me refine my skills as a creator, gain confidence, build an amazingly supportive community within Pinterest and get exposure outside of Pinterest. Because of the program, I’m starting a new business and planning to market it within Pinterest. I would have never dreamed that this could have been possible a year ago. For that reason (and more), I will forever be grateful to the Pinterest team for their support through the Creator Fund program,” Wendy Traylor, a health and fitness professional and past participant of the creator fund said.
