WhatsApp now has over 700 million users and this is up from 600 million users last August. Jan Koum who is the CEO of the Facebook acquired company made this known. As at the time of being acquired by Facebook, the messaging app had about 500 million users and this new figure represents a 200 million increase in user base.
This “impressive” number still has investors wondering as the company is yet to start making money for its Parent company. You’ll recall that Facebook bought WhatsApp for $19b about a year ago. In October, Koum told Re/code that Facebook wasn’t looking to monetize WhatsApp, and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said in the past that he doesn’t want to try to make money from WhatsApp until the service reaches a billion users.
