Officially, ChatGPT is an online search engine driven by artificial intelligence and this search engine has been included into OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot. The artificial intelligence start-up debuted “ChatGPT search” on Thursday. According to OpenAI, its most recent iteration of its online chatbot can instantly gather and present information from the internet, including news, market prices, and sports scores.
In the upcoming weeks, free, business, and educational users will be able to access real-time conversational intelligence, which the firm is now making available to paying customers (as well as SearchGPT waiting members).
ChatGPT has significantly improved its ability to search the web. Previously, you would have needed to use a search engine to obtain quick, timely responses along with connections to pertinent online resources. This combines the usefulness of current news, financial quotations, sports scores, and more with the advantages of a natural language interface.
Web search will be included into ChatGPT’s current interface rather than being released as a stand-alone product. Although users may manually initiate web searches, the functionality uses search queries to determine when to utilize web results. A significant competitive gap with competitors like Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, which have long provided real-time online access in their AI discussions, is now closed with ChatGPT’s web search integration.
Search will be possible on our desktop and mobile applications, as well as at chatgpt.com (opens in a new window). Today, all users of ChatGPT Plus and Team, as well as those on the SearchGPT waiting list, will have access. In the next few weeks, access will be made available to Enterprise and Edu users. Over the next several months, we’ll make it available to all Free users.
AI-powered search is gaining more popularity among internet companies at the time of its launch and we are yet to see a fee more launches like this.
Adam Fry, the search lead for OpenAI’s ChatGPT, showcased the capability in a pre-launch demo by looking up Apple stock and any pertinent news. In exchange, it displayed news items with clickable quotations that connected to the original sources, an interactive stock chart, and information about upcoming earnings. Additionally, readers can peruse a list of pertinent websites via the resources sidebar. When Fry looked for Italian eateries in San Francisco, for instance, an interactive map including pins for suggested eateries was generated. To refine the outcome in both cases, Fry posed follow-up questions (e.g., identifying eateries that are “more casual and neighborhood-like”).
All ChatGPT platforms—iOS, Android, and desktop programs for Windows and macOS—will support the new search feature. According to Fry, “a mix of search technologies,” including Microsoft’s Bing, are used to provide the search capabilities. We revealed in May that OpenAI was actively attempting to recruit Google staff for its own search team, and in July it was first made available to 10,000 test users as a prototype known as SearchGPT.
Prior to this update, the range of ChatGPT knowledge was 2021–2023, depending on the model. In order to “ensure our users always have access to the latest developments,” OpenAI will continue to update its training data even after live search is operational, according to spokesperson Niko Felix. However, he noted that this is “distinguished” from the training of the business models.
It might take a lot of work to get helpful answers online. Finding reliable sources and the information you need frequently necessitates conducting many searches and clicking through links.
You can now receive a better response through chat: ChatGPT has the option to react with web-based information when you pose a query in a more conversational, organic manner. Ask more in-depth follow-up questions, and ChatGPT will take into account the entire conversation context to provide you with a more insightful response.
This update comes as Meta is also reportedly building an AI powered search engine to take on Google. When OpenAI launched its ChatGPT service, many thought this the service could take on Google in future by becoming a full fledged search engine. Then Google decided to do just that in its search engine service by providing an AI overview of your search queries. This
