A collaboration between OpenAI and Stack Overflow, a developer platform, with this partnership ChatGPT is gaining more technical information and boosting the effectiveness of AI models.
To enhance the capabilities of AI models, OpenAI will have access to Stack Overflow’s API and the developer community’s input. In response, OpenAI will provide Stack Overflow with attribution in ChatGPT, which is a link to its contents. If users ask ChatGPT coding or technical questions, they will see additional material from Stack Overflow’s knowledge base. According to the companies’ press announcement, this will help to “promote deeper engagement with content.”
To expand Overflow AI, the generative AI program it introduced last year, Stack Overflow will leverage OpenAI’s extensive language models. Overflow AI would give Stack Overflow access to AI-powered natural language search. Stack Overflow states it would incorporate comments from its community and internal testing of OpenAI models as it seeks to build more AI solutions for users.
Though Stack Overflow did not say which integrations will be released first, the initial batch of integrations will be accessible in the first half of the year. Similar arrangements were reached by Stack Overflow and Google in February, allowing Gemini users on Google Cloud (not to be confused with Gemini the chatbot) to receive coding recommendations straight from Stack Overflow.
Developers have been using Stack Overflow for years to find answers to their coding queries. Despite a significant hiring push in 2022, Stack Overflow laid off 28% of its workforce in October. The shift coincided with the advent of AI-assisted coding, although Stack Overflow could not explain the cuts. Users were temporarily prohibited from uploading ChatGPT responses on Stack Overflow’s website in 2022.
