Custom RTX 3090 Ti cards priced over $4,000 appear on European site | TechSpot

Recall that Nvidia showed up at the CES 2022 with the RTX 3090 Ti, a super-charged upgrade to Nvidia’s leader RTX 3090. Despite RTX 3090 being the top gaming GPU, the RTX 3090 Ti was ready to take off much higher. Reports making rounds online state that Nvidia has requested AIB partners to halt GeForce RTX 3090 Ti production. These reports have stated that a halt on production is due to problems related to the hardware and BIOS.

Although Nvidia didn’t reveal much about the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti at the recently concluded CES 2022. Reports have revealed that the gaming GPU boasts of a 24GB of 21GB/s GDDR6X memory, adding up to a 1TB/s bandwidth, also has 320 Tensor cores, 40 shader cores, and 78 ray-tracing cores, this, therefore, has placed it on the pedestal as the world’s first gaming graphics card with a memory bandwidth of 1GBPS. Reports also suggest that aside from the above, the new Nvidia GPU will have 10,752 CUDA cores and a TDP of 450 watts. However, custom versions of the GPU may be much more power-hungry, with rumoured TDPs of over 1000W. However, due to the recent update regarding the gaming GPU, game lovers may have to wait a while to see it in action.

Sources familiar with the matter and has gone ahead to reach out for answers reveals that Nvidia has asked AIB partners to halt the production of the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti but didn’t state why. An online source that has chosen to fill in the gaps via its own sources say that the gaming cards have issues with their BIOS and hardware. In that report, the exact fault isn’t known yet. While a problem associated with BIOS may relatively be easy to go around, problems associated with hardware has the potential to shut down the entire launch schedule for weeks that may as well run into months. Interestingly enough, none of the reports making rounds mentions anything about the Founders’ Edition.

Another online source suggests that there may be problems associated with silicon. It’s also not unreasonable to assume that the ongoing GPU shortage may play a part, although this would likely simply delay production instead of stopping it entirely. But then, the expectation around the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti gaming card has somehow been crushed as a result of this update. Given its tremendous specifications, we have heard and read it has, we can expect it to cost around US$2,000.

Nvidia didn’t actually reveal a release date for the RTX 3090 Ti, the one thing Nvidia revealed was that the card would be talked about later this month, while the RTX 3050 (also announced during CES 2022) was billed to launch on January 27. Its much more powerful sibling was only briefly mentioned during Nvidia’s keynote. Nevertheless, previous rumours pointed toward January 27 for both cards, although that seems to have fallen through — if it was ever the plan, to begin with. As it is now, Nvidia is yet to make an official statement on the matter, there’s no telling when the new RTX 3090 Ti will most likely hit the stores. Fingers are crossed as we wait to hear more about Nvidia’s plans sometime this month.
